Man arrested for friend's murder

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 3. A 25-year-old man, who allegedly murdered his friend and dumped his body in Bhalswa Lake at Samaipur Badli on January 28, was arrested by the North-West Delhi police from Ghaziabad on Monday. The accused killed his friend, as his proposal for marriage with a girl he liked was turned down following the deceased's advice to her father.

The police had recovered the body from Bhalswa Lake on January 29. He was later identified as Sri Pal, a resident of Nathupura, who worked as meter reader with a company at Bhalswa Dairy. The police started questioning his friends and colleagues.

During the questioning, one of his friends, Sunil Gupta, disclosed that a common friend, Madan Lal Bansal, had met him on January 28, after which he went missing.

Investigations revealed that Madan had not joined duty after January 28. He earlier stayed at Nathupura and had shifted to Loni in Ghaziabad a few months ago. A team went in search of him, but could not trace him. Subsequently, another team was sent to his native place, Morta village in Ghaziabad, which also could not trace Madan, which raised suspicion of his involvement in Sri Pal's murder.

The police found out that Madan's sister was to be married in Ghaziabad and he would join the ceremony. Accordingly, they laid a trap and arrested Madan. During interrogation, he confessed to having killed Sri Pal. He disclosed that he had a strong liking for a girl, Deepika, also a resident of Nathupura. On his behalf, his father met Deepika's father for their marriage. However, Sri Pal apparently informed Deepika's father that Madan was into bad company and was a habitual drinker, owing to which her father rejected the proposal.

In order to take revenge, Madan invited Sri Pal for a drinking session. While he was under the influence of alcohol, Madan shot him with a country-made pistol from point-blank range. Then he dumped Sri Pal's body in Bhalswa lake.
