Five robbers arrested

NEW DELHI, FEB. 3. Five people, who allegedly committed robbery in moving buses running between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested from a park near Hazrat Nizamuddin here. In another case, the Railway police wing of the Crime Branch has arrested a man, his wife and one of his accomplices for allegedly drugging train passengers and robbing them of their luggage.

In the first case, the Special Investigation Team received a tip-off that some criminals would gather at a park near Hazrat Nizamuddin to plan a robbery in a moving bus. Subsequently, they laid a trap and arrested five of the accused. During interrogation, they identified themselves as Taslim, Yusuf, Lal Mohammad, Shokeen and Mohammad Imran. Two knives were recovered from their possession.

The accused allegedly disclosed that they were planning to commit robbery in the U.P. Roadways Mathura/Agra bound buses. The police said all the accused have previous involvements.

Meanwhile, the Railway police arrested three persons, Balbir, his wife Pooja, and Ashok, on charges of robbing train passengers in and around New Delhi railway station. The police recovered a country-made firearm and four live cartridges from Pooja's possession. They also recovered 25 gm smack from Balbir and 20 gm from Ashok. The police said both were also into drug peddling business.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were carrying the firearm to eliminate their rival, Akbar. The police said while Balbir had earlier been arrested for picking pockets and drug peddling, Ashok had been convicted in a murder case at New Delhi railway station. Their other involvements are being investigated.
