BANGALORE, FEB. 3. Wednesday is World Cancer Day, and the Bangalore Institute of Oncology (BIO) has organised a number of programmes. The institute is launching, on February 8, a cancer helpline with the toll-free number 1600-444-444, manned by trained staff who will answer any question regarding cancer. On the same day, BIO will have an open house where the public is invited to visit the facilities and avail of free consultation with specialists. The "Friends of BIO", a group helping cancer patients, will be formally launched on the occasion. A preventive oncology clinic is also to be inaugurated. The Chief Executive Officer of the institute, Abraham John, told presspersons on Tuesday that February 4 marked the fourth anniversary of the first World Summit against cancer, which was held in Paris. On that day, a Charter of Paris against Cancer was signed to take global action against the disease.
