A singing sensation

Sir, — Suraiyya, the charming actress with her mellifluous voice, brought a wide range of emotions to her singing. She leaves behind lilting songs that continue to entertain millions of music lovers.

It is, however, difficult to find the reason for her self-imposed exile at the height of her popularity.

Perhaps she too was groping for an answer from within to Mirza Ghalib's query, dil-e-naadan tujhe hua kya hai, sung by her in the film named after the poet.
