dated February 5, 1954: Food supply

Mr. Rafi Ahmed Kidwai, Food Minister, said in Nagpur that the Government of India wanted to build up a Central Rice Reserve of ten to fifteen lakh tons before introducing complete decontrol. About seven lakh tons might be imported this year provided the price was `reasonable' and, together with the surplus stocks from Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Mysore, they could build up a reserve from which requirements of deficit States would be freely met.
