NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. The "India Shining" advertisements apart, the Government's publicity material has been finalised and soon people will have pocket-editions of the "milestones''of the NDA dispensation as directed by the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Instructions to this effect were given by the Prime Minister to the Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Tuesday after the latter handed over to him the three publicity booklets prepared by his Ministry in view of the fast approaching general elections. Brought out by the Directorate of Audio-Visual Publicity and the Press Information Bureau, an estimated Rs. 5 crores had been spent on the three booklets - "Stability, Prosperity, Global Prestige, Good Governance,'' a list of milestones of the Vajpayee rule; and "Four years of Achievements of NDA Government" and "State-wise achievements under NDA rule". The allocation for this publicity campaign is likely to go up given the Prime Minister's instruction that the three be translated into 13 languages, capsuled into pocket-books and distributed widely so that people can use it as a ready-reckoner of what "the government has done for them''. With the Election Commission asking the Government to pull out the "India Shining" advertisements ahead of the last round of Assembly elections, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has to work overtime now to get the pocket editions out before 14th Lok Sabha elections are announced.
