E. Bengal signs pact with Leicester City

KOLKATA, FEB. 4. Kingfisher East Bengal signed a deal with the English premiership club Leicester City.

The city giant formalised a three-year agreement on Wednesday with the English football club that will open up a host of developmental projects on the initiative of the latter. Leicester City — which is the 11th largest supported club in England and the 18th placed team in the Premiership — also integrated itself in the youth development project of the country getting into an agreement with the All India Football Federation to train the national junior and sub-junior teams.

Prompted by its commitment to community development Leicester City, which has a large Asian population, sought to be involved with an Indian club and "East Bengal's brilliant record and its sound administrative system,'' helped in the choice, said Paul Mace, the club's director and chief operating officer.

As a first development, the director of Leicester City's football academy John Rudkin will be visiting the country in March. Followed it will be a visit by the Indian under-17 team, preparing for the Asian finals to be held in Japan later in the year, and also the East Bengal senior team to Leicester sometime in late July or early August, informed Mr. Mace regarding the immediate plans laid out in the agreement. — Our Sports Reporter
