GULBARGA, FEB. 4. A national conference on advances in fluid mechanics will begin in Gulbarga University on Thursday. N. Rudraiah, University Grants Commission Emeritus Professor and former Vice-Chancellor, will inaugurate the conference, which is being held as part of the special assistance programme of the commission. M.S. Malashetty, chairman of the organising committee, said here on Wednesday that several distinguished scientists, professors, and engineers from universities and research institutes, including the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, would participate. More than 50 young research scholars would presenting their latest research findings at the conference. He said the Department of Mathematics of Gulbarga University had established itself as a premier research department which had published more than 280 research papers in national and international journals. At present, the department was offering postgraduate courses in mathematics with specialisation in fluid mechanics, computer-aided geometric designing, atmospheric science, operations research, and graph theory.
