`Death of witnesses has hampered Dubey case probe'
By K. Balchand
PATNA,
FEB. 4.
The Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Mishra, arrived here today to take stock of the agency's investigation into the Satyendra Dubey murder case in the wake of the unnatural death of two witnesses on Sunday.
Mr. Mishra said the death of the two youths, Mukendra Paswan and Shivnath Sao, after they consumed pesticide, had hampered the investigation process of the "high priority case."
Dubey, an engineer with the National Highway Authority of India, wrote to the Prime Minister's Office alleging corruption in the construction of the Golden Quadrilateral road.
He was gunned down in Gaya district in November last after his identity was leaked.
In another development, the Patna High Court today expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the investigations were being conducted.
Even as the Chief Secretary briefed the court about the death of the two alleged suspects and the case lodged against the CBI team, a legal activist sought an inquiry by a judicial commission as police and the CBI were trading charges.
The court, however, deferred a decision on the issue saying it would await the affidavit from the Centre.
