HYDERABAD, FEB. 4. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee Election Committee met here on Wednesday and appealed to the All India Congress Committee president, Sonia Gandhi, to take over the selection procedure for the Lok Sabha seats for the coming general election. The meeting passed a resolution to this effect while thanking her for giving 50 per cent representation to weaker sections in the committee. As for the Assembly elections, it decided to postpone the discussion to a latter date. Meanwhile, the headquarters of the APCC here, Gandhi Bhavan, is being thronged by aspirants seeking party ticket. The APCC, however, has not yet decided on the amount to be collected as application fee. Today's meeting saw suggestions against collecting Rs.10,000, the current practice. There was also a demand that the District Congress Committees give a portion of the amount accrued thus to the PCC to help those who were not in financially healthy positions. Some speakers expressed apprehensions that newcomers might be given ticket at the cost of those who were working with dedication for the party since many years. Such a trend should be prevented, they said.
