EC discusses poll preparedness

NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. The Election Commission today held a meeting of Chief Electoral Officers of all the States and Union Territories and reviewed the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting was presided by the Chief Election Commissioner, J.M. Lyngdoh, and attended by the CEC-designate, T.S. Krishnamurthy, his colleague, B.B. Tandon, besides other senior officials.

The Commission said that the entire election machinery, including the Chief Electoral Officers, the district election officers and the polling and counting personnel, should ensure free and fair elections.

The meeting reviewed the progress of electoral rollsand the Chief Electoral Officers were asked to ensure that the time schedule prescribed by the Commission was maintained and that accurate rolls were prepared.

The officers were asked to indicate to the Commission the number of polling personnel and the Central paramilitary forces required in each State and formulate material planning for the elections.
