BANGALORE, FEB. 4. Fifteen-year-old Meghna Bal from Shriram School, New Delhi, defeated second-ranked Anjali Chopra in the second round of the Navision all-India ladies amateur golf championship at the Karnataka Golf Association Course here on Wednesday. Meghna had a winning lead on the 15th hole and will now be pitted against another senior Shalini Malik who made short work of Vaishnavi Sinha to reach the semifinal. Rani Sonti played a gutsy match to extend Vandana Aggarwal till the 17th where she lost her chances of making the semifinals. The gold division also had giant-killer Kanika Minocha entering the semifinals with a pulsating win over higher-ranked Manavi Halwasiya. Kanika held her nerve to clinch the match on the 18th hole. In the silver division, top-ranked Sonavi Chopra defeated Indu Shrivastava, winning on the 15th hole. Hole in one: It was a day to remember for 12-year-old Sharmila Nicolette. The Bishop Cotton Girls School student achieved the golfer's dream of a hole-in-one on the par three fourth hole playing in the ongoing Stableford championship. The results: Gold division (quarterfinals): Kanika Minocha bt Manavi Halwasiya (1 up); Vandana Aggarwal bt Rani Sonti (2 &1); Meghna Bal bt Anjali Chopra (4 & 3); Shalini Malik bt Mayali Talwar (5 & 3). Silver division: Sonavi Chopra bt Indu Shrivastava (5 & 4); Saanya Sharma bt Ritu Punwani (2 & 1); Gitah Pandit bt Sonia Barman (5 & 4); Connie Syal bt Dimple Singh (1 up). Bronze division: Preeti Mehta bt Kankalatha Singh (3 & 1); Neelu Chopra bt S.S. Kohli (4 & 3); Priya Khanna bt Aruna Sharma (7 & 6); Ritu Lumba bt Anju Chopra (1 up).
