GIBRALTAR, FEB. 4. For the second time in three weeks, British Grandmaster Nigel Short outwitted P. Hari Krishna and snatched the lead with 6.5 points after the eighth round of the Gibtele.com Masters international chess tournament at the La Caleta Hotel here. On a day when the Indians failed to overcome their higher seeded rivals, GM-norm seeker Tejas Bakre lost to Alexie Dreev, seeded two. On the second board, Surya Shekhar Ganguly drew with Abhijit Kunte. On the bright side, Sandipan Chanda proved equal to third-seeded Russian GM Vladimir Epishin. The results: Eighth round: Nigel Short (Eng) (6.5) bt P. Hari Krishna (6); Abhijit Kunte (5.5) drew with Surya Shekhar Ganguly (6); Tejas Bakre (5) lost to Alexie Dreev (Rus) (6); Sandipan Chanda (5.5) drew with Vladimir Epishin (Rus) (5.5); Jon Speelman (5) drew with Bojan Vuckovic (Serb) (5); Murray Chandler (Eng) (5.5) drew with Mark Hebden (Eng) (4.5).
