Tirumavalavan resignation accepted

CHENNAI, FEB. 4. The Assembly Speaker, K. Kalimuthu, today accepted the resignation of the Dalit Panthers of India leader, Thol. Tirumavalavan, from the membership of the House.

Elected from the Mangalore (reserved) constituency in Cuddalore district in May 2001, Mr. Tirumavalavan submitted his resignation yesterday.

Indications are that the by-election to the constituency is likely to be held along with the Lok Sabha elections.
