Development-oriented, says Harsh Vardhan

NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. Welcoming the provisions of the interim Budget presented by the Union Finance Minister, Jaswant Singh, the president of the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Harsh Vardhan, today it would facilitate development of Delhi and provide relief to its residents.

Calling upon the Delhi Government to now reduce the stamp duty in accordance with the declarations made in the interim Budget, he said since the Centre had reduced the stamp duty by 50 per cent, the stamp duty on property in Delhi would come down from the present 8 per cent to a mere 4 per cent.

Holding that Delhi can also benefit through increased financial allocations for drainage, road, water supply in the Budget, Dr. Vardhan said this would provide relief to the people of Delhi from problems related to these basic services.

The Delhi BJP president said the Budget was also beneficial for lakhs of Government employees as their dearness allowance will now be merged in their basic pay and this will increase the total amount of their allowances.

Pointing out that the interim Budget also contained several provisions for small and cottage industries, Dr. Vardhan said Delhi being a main centre for these industries, the owners and labourers of these units will also stand to gain.

Finally, he said, the construction of an International Convention Centre in Delhi is expected to provide a fillip to trade and commerce in the Capital.
