Leopard trapped in cage
By Our Staff Reporter
UDHAGAMANDALAM,
FEB. 4.
A leopard fell into a trap set up by forest officials at Kuruthukuli near here to catch a tiger, which had killed a woman.
According to forest officials, following the killing of Kalluamma (55), a widow, when she, along with three other women of the village, was collecting firewood inside the Governor Shola range of the Wenlock Downs reserve forest on January 24, a cage with a live bait was kept close to Kuruthukuli.
It is believed that the carnivore must have fallen into a trap during the wee hours today.
Forest officials rushed to the spot along with a veterinarian, who tranquillised the animal aged eight years.
With the help of the villagers it was shifted to another cage and taken to the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and released there.
