Gambling racket busted

NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. In a major raid carried out by the Central Delhi police, 25 businessmen, including two main organisers, were arrested from a Karol Bagh hotel on charges of gambling. The police have recovered over Rs. 3 lakhs as stake money and also seized 26 mobile phones and five cars from the accused.

According to the police, the raid was conducted at Hotel Maurya Heritage in Karol Bagh and 25 persons arrested on Tuesday night. The police recovered Rs. 3.1 lakhs in the raid, 14 dices and several coupons from the accused. The police said two main organisers, Joginder Lal, a resident of Dariba Paan, and Harpreet, a resident of Majlistan, were among those arrested.

A case has been registered under the Gambling Act and further investigations are on.

Held with drugs

Two persons have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for allegedly being in possession of heroin.

According to the police, a decoy customer was sent following a tip-off to strike a deal for 1 kg of heroin at a price of Rs. 10 lakhs with two persons. The place of transaction was fixed at Baba Peer ki Mazar in Palam Colony, South-West Delhi. A trap was laid and two suspects were arrested when the deal was taking place. The police have recovered 1 kg of heroin from the accused, identified as Anil Kumar (24) and Sunder Lal (26), both residents of Palam Colony.
