Swamy's PIL: probe ordered
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 4.
The Delhi High Court today directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate the information which the Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, had provided in his public interest litigation about alleged stocking of smuggled Indian antiques in two shops allegedly owned by the sister of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, in Italy.
A Division Bench, comprising Justice B.C. Patel and Justice B.D. Ahmed, asked the Investigating Officer to complete the probe within four weeks and submit a report to the court. On the basis of reports of three witnesses, Dr. Swamy had alleged in his petition that the two shops were owned by Alessandra Maino, sister of Ms. Gandhi.
The court has for the past one year been hearing the PIL which accuses the Congress president of involvement in smuggling of Indian antiques.
