MYSORE, FEB. 5. The district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) today urged the Deputy Commissioner to stop allotment of Ashraya houses in the city alleging that there had been irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries. Addressing presspersons here today, the former Mayors, Ananthu, Maniraju, and Narayan, accused the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making bogus claims and misleading the people. The Janata Dal (S) refuted the claims made by the local legislators that work on Ashraya houses was progressing well. The former Mayors alleged that in most cases even foundation stone had not been laid and the authorities were yet to prepare sites to construct houses. The Janata Dal (S) leaders also alleged that a few MLAs purchased land from farmers and sold it to the Ashraya committee at a higher price. The Janata Dal (S) leaders urged the Deputy Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into the purchase of land to construct houses under the Ashraya scheme. Meanwhile, the President of the Cultural Committee of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Manjunath, today sought a White Paper on the allotment of houses under the Ashraya Scheme in N.R. constituency in the city. Mr. Manjunath disputed the claims made by the MLA, Tanvir Sait, who had taken credit for the "timely distribution'' of houses to the beneficiaries.
