HYDERABAD, FEB. 5. Two lovers killed themselves by consuming poison in an abandoned hut at Mahendra Hills on Wednesday reportedly after the girl's parents fixed her marriage with another person. In a suicide note purportedly written by the couple - T. Mamatha (19) and M. Anjaneyulu (25) - it was said that they were resorting to the extreme step following objections raised by the girl's parents to their marriage proposal, the Gopalapuram Assistant Commissioner of Police, R.D.S. Bhandari, said. The suicide pact came to light on Thursday evening when a businessman, Raju of Mahendra Hills, found a body inside the hut when he came out for a walk. Both the victims were residents of Hill Top colony. Mamatha studied up to 10th class and fell in love with Anjaneyulu, a private hospital worker. Recently, Mamatha's marriage was fixed with a person of Warangal district. On Wednesday her parents left for the bridegroom's village to perform `varapooja.' They were supposed to return to Hyderabad on Thursday and conduct the engagement in their house. However, Mamatha went missing at 11 a.m. on Wednesday and her relatives lodged a complaint with the Malkajgiri police. "Investigations have revealed that another couple -- Krishna and Sujatha -- lived in the hut and have vacated it recently. The victims chose the hut to commit suicide because it is abandoned," the ACP said. Two pesticide tins were found beside the bodies.
