MYSORE, FEB. 7. A drip irrigation facility was commissioned on the premises of the office of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. here on Saturday. The facility will help water more than 400 trees on the 12.3-acre office compound. Thimme Gowda, Managing Director of the organisation, told presspersons that the facility, which cost Rs. 89,000, was the first step towards achieving the State Government's objective of making people aware of water conservation. There were 90 sapota and 125 guava trees apart from others on the office premises. It was proposed to plant saplings of another 100 fruit and medicinal trees. The facility was expected to be a model for optimum utilisation of available water. Mr. Thimme Gowda said the nigam had been established not only for providing irrigation facilities to farmers but also for creating awareness among people about water conservation techniques and groundwater recharging technology. It was proposed to install a rainwater harvesting plant and a sprinkler facility on the office premises. He said the plant, which would be set up in the old canteen building at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh, would meet the nigam's water requirements and serve as a model for people interested in setting up similar facilities.
