By Shanthi Kannan

CHENNAI, FEB. 7. The Chennai-based Bahwan Cybertek group has bagged a $7 million e-governance project from the Oman Government. The project will be executed by its Chennai facility.

The company is looking at the Indian market and is in talks with various State governments for its e-governance projects.

S. Durgaprasad, Director and Chief Executive Officer, told The Hindu that his company had a tie-up with Oracle India. Most of Bahwan's projects were done on Oracle platform.

The company in collaboration with Oracle was now planning to implement a few of its e-service projects in India.

It had invested over $5 million in the Indian operations and planned to pump in another $5.2 million in the next five years. It planned to expand its team from 250 to over 500 by 2005, he added.

The company had implemented various e-service projects such as Dubai e-government. It had recently won a $12.5 million project, Sanad Citizen services, from the Oman Government to set up over 300 cyber cafes across the country in five years.

Cuecent Payswitch was yet another e-service project for the Oman Government, said Mr. Durgaprasad. It was an electronic presentment and payment (EPP) solutions, which simplified the processing of multiple payment types such as credit cards and debit cards online. Similarly, the company was offering Cuecent Cashswitch, which enabled a secured and fast online funds transfer for remittances. Bahwan had tied up with Thomas Cook and a few other exchange houses and banks to handle NRI remittances.
