Rolls-Royce to source more components

CHENNAI, FEB. 7. Rolls-Royce Energy Systems India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce plc., plans to increase sourcing of components from India for its engines, according to its Executive Director, Premangshu Sanyal.

Mr. Sanyal told The Hindu that over 250 Rolls-Royce engines were operating civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy markets in India.

The company now had a total of 54,000 gas turbines in service across the globe. In India, it had more than 1,000 aero engines, being serviced by it, mainly as a result of long-term defence programmes.

Detailing the reasons for entering India, the Executive Director said India was all set to become an important nation on the global gas map with new domestic discoveries in Gurajat, Krishna-Godavari and Cauvery basins. Huge investments had been planned in the domestic gas infrastructure.

Mr. Sanyal said Rolls-Royce already had a strong manufacturing partnership licence with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bangalore. On the marine side, there were 50 Rolls-Royce designed vessels engines in service.

On the energy side, the engines were manufactured at Bergen in Holland. At present, the company had installed a total 22 Bergen K-Gas engines in India and Bangladesh.

One K-Gas engine of 3.6 MW capacity had been supplied to Vaighai Chemicals Industries in Karaikal and two engines of 3 MW each to Saheli Exports Pvt. Ltd. for its power plant in Mayiladuthurai, both located in Tamil Nadu.
