KOLKATA, FEB. 7. Four records were established in the Indian round competition of the three-day 24th senior National archery championship at the Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Saturday. According to information reaching here, A. Durgaiah of Andhra Pradesh, en route to emerging overall champion in the men's section, accumulated 634 points, bettering the previous record of Vishalie Lehi of Uttaranchal, set at the 22nd Nationals held at Cossipore near Kolkata. P. Prasad, M. Ram Manohar and T. Shekar joined Durgaiah to post 1851 points to win the team championship. This effort upstaged the previous total of 1806 out of 2160 set by Services team of Harkesh Gujar, Ran B. Tamang and Dawa Lama, set at the 20th National held at Shillong. Durgaiah also won the 30m event with a total of 335. The third record in the men's category was in the 50m distance, where Du Bhil Dineshbhai of Gujarat scored 309 points out of 360 to better Ran B. Tamang's previous best of 295, set at the 21st National at Amaravati. Madhurima of Uttar Pradesh won the women's 30m event, with a total of 308, which was also a record. The previous best was 306 by B. Geetanjali Devi of Manipur, set at Cossipore. L. Bombayla Devi of Manipur (277) won the 50m event, while Radha Bai of Jharkhand took the overall title with 569 points. The team title went to Uttar Pradesh (Rashmi, Jyoti and Madhurima), which scored 1654 points. A total of 27 units of the Archery Association of India sent 336 participants to make this event one of the biggest Nationals.
