Website on Thrissur launched

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR, FEB. 7. A Website on Thrissur was launched by the Revenue Minister, K.M. Mani, at a function here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Revenue Minister pointed out that the site was the need of the hour. "Presence on the Web is an important aspect of life in the global village," he said.

The Website (thrissur.nic.in) has been designed by the district administration in association with the local branch of the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

The site contains information on the history, geography and population of Thrissur, various Government departments, services offered by the Revenue Department, representatives of the people, local bodies, festivals and tourist centres.

V.S. Raghunath of NIC said Kerala was the only State where all the districts had Websites of their own.

The NIC web servers were powered by various OS platforms such as Windows, Linux and Solaris. Load balancing and clustering solutions were being employed to tackle heavy traffic, Mr. Raghunath added.

Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, presided over the function. T.V. Chandramohan, MLA, the Collector, V.M. Gopala Menon, the district superintendent of police, G. Janardhanan Nair, the Government Pleader, V. Gopidas, and A.L. Sebastian of NIC were present on the occasion.
