CHENNAI, FEB. 7. The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) general council today said every section in Tamil Nadu was disillusioned with the present rule. With a view to diverting the people's attention, the AIADMK was indulging in a ``hate campaign'' that an Indian alone should be the Prime Minister and this attitude needs to be condemned, a resolution adopted at the meeting said. Presided over by G.K. Mani, MLA, the meeting said all sections were affected by the two-and-a-half year rule of the AIADMK. The sufferings of the people increased day by day. This being so, the Government did not take any steps to generate employment, alleviate poverty, solve the drinking water, housing and other infrastructural problems. Instead, it was introducing ``grandiose schemes'' which were aimed at ``cheap publicity'' such as ``annadhanam'', banning slaughter of animals in shrines and constructing new Secretariat and DGP office complexes, which were not of any use to the people. Instead of creating new jobs, the Government was keen on throwing out employees. The vacancies were not being filled. The Governor address to the Assembly did not contain any long-term scheme to solve the basic problems faced by the people. ``The AIADMK Government has miserably failed to solve the problems.'' Though it was a general election, the people wished that it should be the beginning for removing the ``anti-democratic'' AIADMK government, the resolution said. Another resolution urged the Centre to allocate Rs.1,500 crores and 10 lakh tonnes of rice as sought by the State to tackle the drought and the drinking water problem. The other demands included closure of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor outlets and bars attached to them at 8 p.m. instead of midnight at present. The meeting expressed concern that the bill providing for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures and Parliament had not been passed by Parliament even after eight years since it was introduced. Employment should be provided to agricultural labourers who have lost their livelihood due to drought. Later, speaking to presspersons, the party founder, S. Ramadoss, said the matter relating to the allocation of the Pondicherry seat was over. He had written a letter to the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and it had been made public. He said the list of party candidates would be announced at the appropriate time. Meanwhile, the Uzhavar Uzhaippalar Katchi at its State executive committee meeting here yesterday decided to support the Democratic Progressive Alliance. The party president, K.Sellamuthu, presided. The Janata Dal (S) has also extended support to the alliance.
