KOZHIKODE, FEB. 7. The UDF Syndicate member of the Calicut University, Babu Sundar, has threatened to file a defamation suit against the Vice-Chancellor, Syed Iqbal Hasnain, for seeking the Governor's sanction to remove him from the Syndicate in the light of a resolution passed by the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) Syndicate against him in 2000. Addressing a news conference here today, Dr. Babu Sundar said that the High Court of Kerala had quashed the Cusat Syndicate's resolution against him in April 2001. Dr. Babu Sundar, who is at present attached to the Department of Computer Applications, Cusat, was nominated to the Calicut University Syndicate two years ago. While responding to the Vice-Chancellor's letter to the Governor, which was also released to the press on Thursday, Dr. Babu Sundar said that it (letter) amounted to defaming his reputation and sought an apology from the Vice-Chancellor. In his letter to the Governor, Dr. Hasnain had sought the removal of Babu Sundar from the Calicut University Syndicate "on the grounds that the Cusat Syndicate had passed a resolution stating that Dr. Babu Sundar could not be considered for any of the statutory bodies of the university. '' However, when contacted, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Hasnain said that the decision of the Syndicate of any university could not be quashed by the High Court. "In any case I am not going to apologise. Besides, the Government has to consider withdrawing his (Dr. Babu Sundar's) nomination,'' he said.
