NEW DELHI, FEB. 7 .The Jamia Hamdard University is an example of foresight, missionary zeal and devotion of a man who believed that he could make a difference, the Rajya Sabha member, Karan Singh, said here today. Paying homage to the founder of the University, Hakeem Abdul Hammeed, Dr. Singh said that the deemed university has not only pioneered unconventional faculties and departments but has also excelled in the area of providing quality education to its students. Speaking at the sixth convocation of Jamia Hamdard, where he was the chief guest, Dr. Singh also insisted on the importance of vocational and training institutions in the country and praised the University for the work done in this area. The function was presided by the Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Saiyid Hamid, who said the University offers the feel of a multi-cultural campus where students from 35 States of India and 20 countries of the world study together. He added that the University continues to receive the patronage of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Hamdard National Foundation. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Siraj Hussain, hoped that the University would fulfil the long cherished dream of its founder to make Jamia one of the best academic institutions in South-Asia. Also present on the occasion were members of the Hamdard National Foundation, eminent scholars and ambassadors of several countries. The University awarded 28 PhDs, 220 post-graduation degrees, and 230 graduation degrees at the convocation. Also, the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science was conferred on a paediatrician from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Maharaj Krishnan Bhan.
