Girl ends life

NEW DELHI FEB. 7. A 17-year-old girl, whose lover had allegedly hanged himself to death on Friday, also committed suicide at Ambedkar Nagar in South Delhi late last night.

Monica, a resident of Devli village, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room around 2 a.m., after her 19-year-old lover, Bhagat Singh, hanged himself to death in his house. The police said families of both the deceased objected to their relationship, owing to which they ended their lives.

Husband held

NEW DELHI FEB. 7 . The husband of a 21-year-old woman, who was found murdered in her house at Rohini in North-West Delhi three days ago, has been arrested for his alleged involvement.

Sonia, who was married to Ashwani for the past four years, was found strangled in her house. The police arrested Ashwani after he confessed to having killed her, as she had an affair with another man working with her at one Rama Finance company.

Woman discharged

NEW DELHI FEB. 7. A city court has discharged a woman accused of keeping a female blackbuck in captivity at her South Delhi farmhouse after finding that there was no substantial evidence against her.

Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Manoj Jain freed Kavita Parmar of charges of having violated the provisions of Wildlife (Protection) Act by keeping the blackbuck in her farmhouse at Gadaipur in Mehrauli.

The Wildlife Department had alleged that when they raided Parmar's farmhouse on May 27, 1999, they had found a female blackbuck. When Parmar reached there the next day, she could not produce any licence or other authority showing that she had the permission to keep the animal, the Department alleged.

The Department then handed over the blackbuck to Delhi Zoo on May 28, 1999.

Though the prosecution alleged that Parmar kept the animal as a pet and cited seven witnesses in the case, Parmar's lawyer Kashish Batra contended that the blackbuck had strayed into the farmhouse situated near a forest area.

Many animals from the nearby forest usually stray into the farmhouse, the defence counsel argued, adding that the Wildlife Department had not seized any cage, animal feed or rope to substantiate their allegations.
