Robbery case solved, three held

NEW DELHI, FEB. 7 .The police have busted a gang of robbers, arresting three of its members and recovered looted valuables from their possession.

The accused, Sikandar Nath Dogra alias Sunny, Virender Singh Mehlawat alias Sonu and Ashok Kumar alias Shoki, were arrested during the course of investigation into a case in which a person was robbed of his mobike, gold chain, driving licence and mobile phone in Mahipalpur area of south-west Delhi.

Sikander was found involved in 15 other criminal cases mainly in South-West Delhi. The other, Virendra Singh, is a computer hardware and network engineer and the third, Ashok Kumar, is a safai worker in a Government dispensary in Vikaspuri.

The gang used to operate in the city outskirts targeting lonely passersby, the Deputy Commissioner of Police IGI Airport DC Srivastava, said in a release here.

RI for MCD employees

A Delhi court today sentenced two MCD officials to one-and-half year rigorous imprisonment for taking bribe for releasing post-retirement dues accruing to a sweeper.

Additional Sessions Judge P K Bhasin also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on UDC Brahmanand and his subordinate Bijender who had accepted Rs 1,000 as bribe from Jaipali on November 26, 1993.

The Anti-Corruption Branch had apprehended Bijender while he was accepting the money in the Shahadra Zone office of the MCD. He later revealed that he had taken the money on behalf and on instructions from Brahmanand.

Jaipali, who retired from service on September 30, 1993, had lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Department that the accused had been demanding bribe for releasing her post-retirement dues.
