VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 7. The Congress party is going to the people in Rajiv Gandhi's memory and, if they want to give a befitting `shraddhanjali' to the man who sacrificed his life for the country like his family members, they should vote the Congress to power in the State and the Centre, the former MP, Umagajapathi Raju, said here on Saturday. Talking to reporters, she said that an innocent man, Rajiv Gandhi, was today vindicated by even the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government and the CBI also said he was innocent. The NDA which had criticised him in the Bofors case, should apologise, she remarked. Pooh-poohing the `feel-good factor' claimed by the NDA, Ms. Uma Gajapathi Raju revealed that while she was travelling in the villages of Bheemunipatnam, S. Kota, and Uttarapalli she could find no evidence of it. Wherever she went, the roads were exactly what they were and the water problem was exactly as it was. But there was fantastic publicity campaign and they (NDA) said India was shining. The feel-good factor was of the privileged, for the privileged and by the privileged, she commented. She alleged that Rs.250 crores was spent on publicity which was "daylight robbery of people's money." The NDA had forgotten farmers, the youth and women and just because elections were round the corner, it was announcing sops galore. Ms. Uma Gajapathi Raju said that she was seeking ticket to contest the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat.
