Chief Justice meets Rabri

By K. Balchand

PATNA, FEB. 7. In a bid to break the ice and avoid confrontation between the judiciary and the Bihar Government, the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, R. S. Dhawan, held a meeting with the Chief Minister, Rabri Devi.

The meeting, held at the behest of Mr. Justice Dhawan, lasted almost 90 minutes where the Chief Secretary, K.H. Subramanian, and the Departmental Secretaries of the Law and Building Construction assisted Ms. Rabri Devi.

Though his agenda was primarily to discuss the issue of implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act, the Chief Justice took the opportunity to discuss issues relating to delay in the construction of buildings and providing the necessary infrastructure at all levels.

The meeting gained significance against the backdrop of the High Court's strong indictment of the State Government for not complying with its orders and the law and order situation. The Chief Secretary, however, denied that the issue of law and order had been discussed at the meeting.
