Naxals gun down TDP leader

By Our Staff Reporter

ONGOLE, FEB. 8. The People's War naxalites gunned down a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activist and former sarpanch of Bollupalli in Arthaveedu mandal, Chettem Mavullaiah (58), on the pretext that he was a police informer, late on Saturday night.

According to the police, two naxalites came to the victim's house and took Mavullaiah and his son, Nagaraju alias David, stating that the duo was summoned by naxalites in the forest.

After walking for about two km into the forest, they came across about 15 naxalites in olive green uniform. The naxalites tied Mavullaiah to a tree and shot him dead at point blank. David was left unhurt. On his return, he informed the police about the incident. The body was brought back to the village, the police said.

CM condemns attack

The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has condemned the killing of Avulaiah. In a statement here, Mr. Naidu said such cowardly acts of the naxalites would not demoralise the TDP workers who were working with total commitment for the allround development of the State.
