Vijayawada
By Our Special Correspondent
VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 8. The district Collector, K. Prabhakar Reddy, on Sunday directed the officials concerned to expedite works pertaining to micro-irrigation project in the district for achieving the targets set by the Government.Reviewing the progress of works under the project, the Collector expressed concern that though as many as 5,266 applications were received from farmers for taking up micro-irrigation projects in 8,178 acres, only 178 applications were processed so far. The officials concerned should, therefore, take initiative to examine the applications received by them, ensure documentation of the eligible applications and negotiate with bankers for arranging the required financial tie-ups. The officials were also directed to negotiate with the equipment manufacturers for supply of drip irrigation material besides evolving a plan of action in consultation of farmers for making the project a success. Senior officials including the Neeru-Meeru project director, Sheik Salam and others also participated, according to a press release.
