Manam asks Congress not to ignore Left parties

By Our Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 8. The State committee member of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Manam Anjaneylu, has warned the Congress against weakening the Left parties in the coming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, but enlist their help to defeat the Telugu Desam-Bharatiya Janata Party (TDP-BJP) combine.

Addressing a meeting of party workers from Visakha I, Visakha II, Pendurthi, Bhimili and Parawada constituencies held here today, Mr. Anjaneyulu said there was no scope for any single party to come to power at the Centre in the present political situation and so coalition Governments had become inevitable.

Though the Congress had realised this belatedly, the trend of talks with secular and Left parties and the statements issued by State and local leaders were not conducive to achieving the objective of avoiding split in the Opposition vote, he felt.

He contended that the CPI could play a decisive role in determining the results in the 13 Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats in Visakhapatnam district. J.V.S. Murthy and the Gajuwaka secretary of the party, A.J. Stalin, were also present.
