KOCHI, FEB. 9. The Kerala Film Exhibitors' Federation and and Kerala Cine Exhibitors' Association have backed the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce on the latter's decision to stop production works from March 8 in case film artistes cooperated with the star night programme being organised here by a private Malayalam television channel. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, representatives of the exhibitors' organisations said that violation of rules by members of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) and other issues related to the film industry will be the point of discussion at the State-level convention of the Chamber to be held on February 12 at the EMS Memorial Town Hall here. The Chamber has called for a `cinema bandh' the same day. Isaac Francis, the president of the federation, said that theatres were facing a crisis since various television channels were airing film-based programmes and award nites involving most of the actors and actresses. The federation leaders pointed out that cutting production costs is the one of the keys to finding a solution to the problems facing the industry. Almost 40 to 60 per cent of the entire production costs have to be earmarked for the remuneration of the artistes themselves, they said.
