Bhujbal denies role in stamp paper scam

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI, FEB. 10. The former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Chagan Bhujbal, has denied his or his nephew Sameer Bhujbal's involvement in the stamp paper scam and said that he did "not believe" in the output of the narco-analysis test conducted in Bangalore on Abdul Karim Telgi, the alleged brain behind the multi-crore scam.

According to reports, Telgi is alleged to have mentioned the name "Bhujbal" — it is not clear if it was a reference to the former Deputy Chief Minister or his nephew — but later reports quoting Telgi's lawyer spoke of Telgi having denied mentioning any name.

The tests on Telgi were conducted by the Mumbai-based Special Investigating Team on December 22 in Bangalore where Telgi is now incarcerated. The contents of the test were selectively presented to a Pune court on Monday.

PTI reports:

The former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, admitted today that he had forwarded Telgi's case to the authorities concerned at the instance of former journalist and MLA, Anil Gote, during his tenure as Revenue Minister but denied his role in the scam.
