KOCHI, FEB.10. The convocation ceremony of the Kerala Press Academy's diploma courses in Journalism and Communication and Public Relations and Advertising - 2003 was held at Kakkanad here on Tuesday. Distributing the certificates and gold medals to the rank holders, the Minister for Information, M.M.Hassan, said that media was the most powerful weapon for bringing about social change and fighting the social evils. He extended all support from the Government to elevate the Kerala Press Academy into a Centre of Excellence as promised earlierNoted Malayalam critic, M.Leelavathy, lit the `Akshara Deepam,' marking the beginning of the function. The Kerala Press Academy Gold Medals and Kanichai Thomas Jose Cash Awards for the first rank holders were received by G. Manjusha (Journalism) and L.Prabha (PR & Advertising). The M.N.Sivaraman Nair Memorial Cash Awards for second rank holders were received by N.P. Anupama Mili and V.V. Indu. K.Ratheesh and T.P.Shain received the T.K.G. Nair Memorial Gold Medals for the best students. The Dr. C.P. Menon Memorial Cash Awards for effective writing instituted by Dr. Leelavathy were given to G. Greeshma and K.K.Ashkar.
