THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 10. The Kerala Lok Ayukta has directed the Commissioner for Government Examinations to ensure the durability of the Secondary School Leaving Certificates issued to eligible candidates, since they were documents meant to be preserved for a lifetime. On a petition filed by V.N. Neema and S. Shiny, who are now doing their degree course, K. Sreedharan, Lok Ayukta, and V. Bhaskaran Nambiar, Upa Lok Ayukta, have ordered that the mark lists of the SSLC examination, the result of which is to be published on or after April 1, 2004, be issued on thick bond paper. They have also ordered that the action taken in this regard be reported to the Kerala Lok Ayukta on or before March 15. The petitioners had questioned the order issued by the Secretary to the Commissioner for Government Examinations, invalidating the certificates that were laminated. Such an order was unjust and uncalled for, the Kerala Lok Ayukta maintained. It is for the Government to ensure that valid documents like the SSLC certificates be issued in such a manner that they could be preserved for long. There is no additional expenditure that the Government will be required to incur for issuing the certificates on thick bonded paper, for the fees remitted by students will cover all these aspects, Mr. Sreedharan and Mr. Nambiar have observed. They have also suggested that the practice being followed by the universities with regard to the degree certificates and the Central Board of Secondary Education in the matter of mark lists of the 10th and 12th class examinations, be resorted to in the case of the SSLC examinations as well.
Order on revaluation
On another petition filed by K. Sheeja, a student of the University of Kerala, seeking orders for the revaluation of her Mathematics answer paper, the Upa Lok Ayukta has directed the university to ensure that the revaluation is done within a week. If the person appointed as examiner for the purpose, as submitted by the university, failed to comply with this direction, he will be declared unfit to hold his present office, it has been further ordered.
