IIM fees

Sir, — The Government's decision to reduce the fees of the Indian Institutes of Management is welcome. Those who oppose subsidising higher education and instead advocate that the Government concentrate on providing basic education to poor students display a condescending attitude little realising that this ghettoises the poor with basic education and limits higher education to the elite and the middle class.
