KOZHIKODE FEB. 11. The Hindu Aikya Vedi has called for a meeting of senior leaders of the Hindu community in the State, at the Alakapuri auditorium here on February 14, to organise protests against the delay in ordering a CBI enquiry into the Marad massacre. Sanyasis and other religious leaders are expected to attend the convention, T. Suresh, State secretary of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, said at Marad today. He said the Hindu Aikya Vedi had been provoked to resume its agitation on the Marad issue, since the Government had not kept its word to order a CBI investigation into the massacre. A CBI probe into the carnage was one of the conditions of the `Marad peace package', under which the agitators temporarily called of their stir and facilitated the return of Muslim families who had fled from Marad fearing retaliatory attacks from relatives of the Hindus who were slain. Mr. Suresh said that they were planning to renew the agitation, as the promised CBI enquiry had not been ordered even four months after the State Government had promised to do so. "This amounts to a betrayal of the entire Hindu community. It cannot go unchallenged," he said.
