2,27,336 more voters in Belgaum district this time

BELGAUM, FEB. 11. Belgaum district with two Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly constituencies has recorded an increase of 2,27,336 voters over the figure of 25,99,240 recorded at the time of the last General elections.

According to a release here on Wednesday, 28,26,576 voters, including 13,95,934 women, are eligible to exercise their franchise. This time, the increase in the number of women voters is 1,10,150. However, the number of polling booths has been reduced from 3,226 to 2704.

Uchgaon Assembly constituency is the largest constituency in the district with 2,03,538 voters, including 99,830 women voters, followed by Arabhanvi with 1,86,930 (93,926 women voters) and Belgaum with 1,84,995 (81,227 women voters).

And, Bagewadi has 1,66,232 voters (82,664 women voters), Khanapur 1,52,506 (75,339 women voters), Nippani 1,34,024 (66,5327 women voters), Sankeshwar 1,30,864 (65,434 women voters), Hukkeri 1,28,426 (63,767 women voters), Sadalga 1,33,680 (65,951 women voters), Chikkodi 1,45,372 (70,821 women voters), Ramdurg 1,52,980 (75,458 women voters), Parasgad 1,62,489 (80,622 women voters), Bailhongal 1,42,291 (70,575 women voters), Kittur 1,45,708 (72,226 women voters), Gokak 1,50,751 (75,425 women voters), Raibag 1,83,586 (90,344 women voters), Kagwad 1,48,332 (72,607 women voters) and Athani has 1,73,914 voters including 85,155 women voters.

According to the Assistant Returning Officer and Headquarter Assistant to Deputy Commissioner, the administration has acquired electronic voting machines. The number of such machines available in the district is adequate even to hold simultaneous polls.

Meanwhile, in view of the Election Commission making voters identity cards compulsory for the elections, steps are being taken to issue the cards to those who have not availed of them so far.

Two counters have been set up in each of the 10 taluks to distribute the cards. The cards will be issued for five days from Thursday.

Those who have lost their cards may avail of duplicate cards on a payment of Rs. 25 each at these counters.
