BELLARY, FEB. 11. The second round of the "pulse polio" immunisation programme will be held for three days from February 22 in Bellary district and around 3.05 lakh children below five years of age will be administered polio vaccine, the Deputy Commissioner, S.N. Jayaram, has said. Presiding over a preparatory meeting held in this regard here on Wednesday, Mr. Jayaram called upon the Health Department officials to ensure that not even a single child was left out of the programme. He announced that no new case of polio was reported in the past five months. "In view of 18 cases of polio being reported in the district, all the medical officers and paramedical staff should make efforts to administer polio vaccine to each child," he said. He pointed out that the district ranked 21st in the State as far as healthcare was concerned and wanted the authorities concerned to lay more thrust on implementing health programmes to achieve first place.
