HYDERABAD, FEB. 11. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief spokesperson, K. Rosaiah, has accused the Government of shielding the guilty in the multi-crore counterfeit stamp scam and demanded a judicial probe into the matter. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Rosaiah said the Government was downplaying the scam very effectively by asking the police to go slow in the investigation process. He alleged that a top police officer tried to prevent the arrest of the former MLA, Krishna Yadav, when the Special Investigating Team from Pune visited the city in September last. He claimed that the officer offered huge money to the team at the police officers' mess here on the day of Krishna Yadav's arrest. Having failed to prevent the arrest, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) expelled him. Mr. Rosaiah said the probe was being confined to only post-2001 happenings while the first case was booked in 1999 by the Begum Bazar Police. Senior police officers intervened and gave a five-star treatment to the accused, including Abdul Kareem Telgi, and later facilitated his release on bail.
