New Government by May 15: Lyngdoh

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD, FEB. 11. The former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), J.M. Lyngdoh, has said that a new Government will be formed in Andhra Pradesh by May 15.

Mr. Lyngdoh made a brief halt at Kamareddy guesthouse en route to Chevella this evening.

The district Collector, D.V. Raidu, received him at the guesthouse.

Speaking to journalists at Kamareddy, Mr. Lyngdoh said that the notification for Assembly elections would be announced shortly. He ruled out any chance of entering politics.

Earlier, Mr. Lyngdoh, in a brief interaction with journalists at Adilabad, favoured the Presidential form of Government in the country.

Taking a dig at the work culture in the country, he said many meetings were being held during the day, but nothing happens at the end.

When it was pointed out that in Andhra Pradesh there were more meetings than in any other State, the former CEC said some development was being witnessed here.

Giving an example, he said that establishment of Rythu Bazars had benefited farmers. No other State did follow the concept.

He observed that in some parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, doubts were being raised whether any Government functioned there.

Asked about the high point in his career, he said that the conduct of elections in Jammu and Kashmir was memorable.

He said that a book on Kashmir authored by him would be released after the general elections.

Earlier, on his arrival, the district Collector, Vikas Raj, the Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, and the Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Luv Agarwal, called on the former CEC.
