THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 11. The Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, has said that the Akshaya Computer Literacy Scheme, now being implemented in the Malappuram district, would be extended to all districts during the coming two years. The Akshaya Centres would be permitted to offer various services now being offered by the Government through the FRIENDS centres and participate in programmes of various departments. Mr. Antony said that a company of armed police would be formed for Kasaragod district considering the shortage of armed police in the district. Difficult law and order problems were occurring in the district, and police had to be moved in from nearby districts frequently. He said that he would be visiting Gulf countries in September. The visit was expected to help in understanding the problems of Gulf Malayalis and attract investments to the State. Many people were urging him to visit the Gulf countries as other Chief Ministers were doing. He had not visited any of the Gulf countries so far. However, he had been taking up the causes of Gulf countries with the Centre frequently. He could learn much from the many emails he was getting from Gulf Malayalis in recent years. "They say that investments would come if I went there." He said that he had never made an official trip to a foreign country as Union Minister or Chief Minister. He had gone to countries such as Russia, Japan and Paris under sponsorship from the AICC years ago.
