HYDERABAD, FEB. 11. The second educational conference of the Democratic Teachers' Federation (DTF), to be held in Karimnagar from February 13 to 15, will discuss threadbare the need to teach students in their mother tongue with focus on the local dialect. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, M. Gangadhar, general secretary of the DTF, said that the Government should adopt the single language system instead of the three-language policy that has only led to the neglect of the mother tongue. Another issue to be discussed is the adoption of the Kothari Committee recommendations and introduction of the common school system. The appointment of teachers on contract basis is another problem to be discussed. Dr. Gangadhar said a host of issues related to students and education would come up for discussion. A document would be prepared on the basis of the discussions and submitted to the Government. Senior officials of the School Education Department, I.V. Subba Rao, principal secretary, Manmohan Singh, Director, School Education, would also participate. The three-day conference will also see a series of lectures on burning issues by prominent speakers, including G. Haragopal, K. Siva Reddy, Potturi Venkateshwara Rao, R.K. Chowdary and K. Balagopal.
