NEW DELHI
FEB. 11.
The cross-examination of the investigating officer in the Jessica Lal murder on a two-page document having alleged suggestions by the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) on how to proceed in the investigation of the case was adjourned for Thursday when Sub-Inspector Sunil Sharma said that "he was not having concentration'' due to mental fatigue.
When counsel for Manu Sharma, the main accused in the case, put a question to him regarding his presence in the interrogation of the accused on a particular date, he failed to recall the details saying that for the moment he was not in a "proper mental equilibrium'' as he had come to the court straightaway from a spot in the Janakpuri area where a couple had been murdered.
Robbers arrested
The Special Staff was recently tipped off about the activities of Shahid Hussain aka Shakal, an alleged criminal from Etah in Uttar Pradesh, who along with his accomplices had been targeting houses in Delhi.
On Tuesday, Sub-Inspector Rajkumar found out that Shahid and his accomplices, Feroze and Rakesh, would come to Dwarka in a Maruti car bearing a fake number plate to rob a financer. Accordingly, a police team comprising SIs Ravinder Tyagi and Shiv Shankar laid a trap and intercepted the vehicle with that description. One of the accused tried to open fire, but was overpowered. Initial investigations revealed that the car they were travelling in had been stolen from Janakpuri.
During interrogation, Shahid disclosed that he along with five of his accomplices had robbed the occupant of a Lajpat Nagar house of Rs. 12 lakhs in cash and jewellery worth Rs. 4 lakhs last May.
