Antony to inaugurate heart hospital on Sunday

PATHANAMTHITTA, FEB. 12. The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, will inaugurate a heart hospital attached to the St Gregorios Mission Hospital at Parumala on February 15.

The heart hospital has been set up in association with Frontier Lifeline Private Limited.

Addressing mediapersons here today, the chairman of the Cardio-Vascular Centre, K.M. Cherian, said that the heart hospital at Parumala would be the first of its kind in a rural area.

The new venture was aimed at facilitating modern cardiac care at a reasonable cost, Dr. Cherian said.

The executive director of the hospital, Fr. Alexander Koodarathil, said that experts in cardiac surgery under the guidance and leadership of veterans such as Dr. Cherian, would be an advantage to the heart hospital that has all infrastructure facilities.

Fr. Alexander said that the Tourism Minister, K.V. Thomas, would inaugurate the nursing college attached to the Mar Gregorios Mission Hospital on the occasion.

The Information Minister, M.M. Hassan, would open the catheterisation laboratory attached to the heart hosptial while the Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission, V.N. Rajashekharan Pillai, would inaugurate the newly-built hospital block.

The Catholicose of the East, Moran Mor Baselius Mar Thoma Mathews-II, will preside over the function.

The Catholicose designate, Thomas Mar Themotheos, will deliver the benedictory speech.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Cyriac Thomas, will launch the Heart Care Foundation and the former Tamil Nadu Governor, Fatima Beevi, will inaugurate the 90th birth anniversary celebrations of the Catholicose.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) convener, Oommen Chandy, the Kollam Bishop, Stanly Roman, Geevarghese Mar Osthatheos Metropolitan of the Niranam diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church and Thomas Mar Athanaseus Metropolitan will also speak.
