Bus operators threaten indefinite stir
By Our Staff Reporter
THRISSUR,
FEB. 12.
The Kerala State Private Bus Operators' Federation has threatened to launch an indefinite bus strike from Saturday if the Government does not abandon the move to insist on speed governors in the private line buses.
In a statement here today, the Federation president, M.S. Premkumar, and the general secretary, Anto Francis, said the vehicles which were taken to the RTO office and sub-regional transport offices for test and registration were sent back today without any warning even though the High Court had granted time till February 29 for fitting the speed governors.
In Kerala, speed governors costing about Rs. 24,000 are to be fitted in over four lakh vehicles. This will mean imposing an additional burden of Rs. 1,085 crores on the transport industry.
